Maggie Foxx’s baseball journey began when she was 18 months old, hit-ting off a tee in the backyard with her father. This summer, the Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) Los Angeles Queens selected Foxx in the 2nd round, 14th player overall, in the inaugural season of the WPBL.
“I’ve always wanted to be a professional baseball player,” Foxx posted on the Brown softball Instagram account. “It’s something that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little kid.
“It just felt like a culmination of all of my hard work with my teammates and all the things that my parents have sacrificed for me,” she added.
Foxx has compiled a long list of trailblazing accolades. She was the first girl in New Hampshire to play on a boys’ Little League baseball team and later became the first female catcher in New Hampshire Division I history while playing for Bedford High School. Named the Bedford High School Baseball Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, she was also selected as team captain during her senior year, made the East-West New Hampshire All-Star Game rosters in 2023 and 2024, and competed as a five-sport athlete.
Her success translated seamlessly to college; during her first year at Brown, the softball team earned its first-ever Ivy League Tournament Championship by besting Princeton.
Her home-state community has rallied behind her success. The New Hampshire Fisher Cats—the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays—posted on Instagram, “Our whole club is very proud,” noting that Foxx had worked as part of the team’s ground crew during the 2022 and 2025 seasons.
“I really love baseball,” Foxx asserted. “Doing it alongside some of my best friends is just an absolute surreal moment to me.”
The WPBL, said to be the first professional women’s baseball league since 1954, kicked off its inaugural season in August. The league is made up of four teams, with New York, Boston, and San Francisco joining Los Angeles. The schedule ran for one month with two games a week. Games ran seven innings and players used aluminum bats.
After the regular season, there were two weeks of playoffs in a central location, where the first WPBL championship team was crowned. The league also featured a week of All-Star competition between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.
