President Paxson reminds us that science tells us dramatic emission cuts are needed in the fight against climate change. But that reduction does nothing to lower the carbon already emitted and in the atmosphere, now at about 415 parts-per-million. What net-zero really means is capturing, removing, and storing past CO2 emissions. It also means reliance on alternative energy sources in the absence of carbon. As we move toward lowering “carbon footprints” and current emissions, we might slow down and make better use of increasingly limited resources to improve our deteriorating infrastructure, which will be required regardless of what the climate does.

I am so proud of Brown! Christina Paxson’s statement in the May/June BAM about the pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions gave this 94-year-old member of the class of  ’46 a thrill! Thank you.
