The truth about human history is that the survival of our species was in doubt for most of it and we survived by turning females into breeding stock and males into cannon fodder. My husband is a second-generation Eskimo. In his words, “Women were scarce and few men were lucky enough to have a wife or to live long enough to care.” To summarize my opinion of Handmaid—disgusting and irrelevant. Who cares who directed it?!!!

The real dystopia is the assertion that The Handmaid’s Tale has anything to do with President Trump: pure and utter nonsense all around. Coincidentally the main character is played by a Scientologist—more dystopia.

This story’s casual libel of the “Trump era” as bad for women and gays was out of touch with reality (“Dystopia Calling,” May/June 2019). Just as delusional: its implication that The Handmaid’s Tale is meaningful or relevant to average American communities, where people work together every day to raise children. The piece unintentionally shines a light on how corrupt and out-of-touch Hollywood and higher education have both become.
