I have to agree with James Burling’s comment on the Current Obsession column in the April/May BAM (“Are you, like, kidding?”). The same issue that contained his letter and the half-baked defense from the editor contained a rambling, ungrammatical musing about leggings, uttered by a senior. If this is, indeed, the way “people are really talking, now, on campus,” [sic; the commas around “now” are superfluous] the column proves that mandating “safe” speech not only impairs free speech, but intelligent speech, too.

Regarding the Current Obsession with a Brown senior (“Leggings 24/7,” April/May,) I’m, like, appalled. This student probably definitely started wearing leggings as a “style thing” and she definitely probably wears leggings every day. She wears them for “like sleeping” and “like sitting.” Could the BAM editors not, like, edit?
