Send feedbackI’m glad to see that researchers at Brown are still examining artifacts. In fact, when I graduated in 1987 with a BA in Chemistry and an independent BA in Art Conservation, neutron imaging was already being used on paintings by conservators collaborating with scientists. Yes, art conservation science is a small field, but one that has existed for a while. In fact, there is now a new field recognized by many historians called “technical art history,” curators collaborating with conservation scientists and conservators, opening up a new way to think about artistic and cultural objects.
