Send feedbackPresident Paxson speaks of expanding college access without once stating that enrollment would increase to cover the additional students. Simple math says that some students normally admitted to Brown under the previous rules would have to go elsewhere to make room for those being admitted under expanding college access. After World War II, the Soviets did the same to eastern Europe’s universities. Children from worker families were admitted to the widespread exclusion of children from the upper classes and the former intelligentsia of scholars, academics, teachers, and writers. How’d that turn out? It’s been over 30 years since the Soviet Union collapsed but one example would be that the former East Germany still lags economically behind the former West Germany. Do we really have to wait 30 years to see if the same policy of DIE (diversity, inclusion, and equity) has the same result in the U.S.?
