Great story about the “Jewelry District”Brill in Providence. My family has a rich history with this area. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all worked in this district at one point back in its heyday. My parents both worked and met in this district. It’s great to see that after years of decline in the 80’s and 90’s, this district is back and better than ever. While the “jewelry” part of the district may be gone, it now shines brighter than ever!

I enjoyed your article about Brown’s growing connections with the Jewelry District in Providence. The piece does overlook another legendary establishment frequented by Brown students, between Leo’s in 1974 and Nick-a-Nees in 1996. Some of the best memories of my Brown days were Tuesday nights at the original Met Cafe, alongside the I-195 on-ramp. Twenty or so of us would take over the dance floor, drink Narragansetts and swing and sweat until midnight. I can’t recall the name of the band, but they rocked the place with a sound and set list ala the Flamin’ Groovies.
