While it’s great that BAM is highlighting another recovery program responding to the epidemics of addiction and alcoholism, which have worsened since the pandemic, [however] the article mischaracterizes Alcoholics Anonymous and 12-Step programs. There is absolutely no religious requirement for attendance. Members are asked to develop “an understanding of a power greater than themselves” which can be the love of the group, nature, or anything else one may deem greater than oneself.
