Although my Latin knowledge was limited to what I picked up from classical hymns and biology, I adored attending this service every December during the John Rowe Workman years, and am glad to know that it’s still going strong.

I took three years of Latin in high school because my father went to Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, where Latin was required. When I got to Brown, I took Classics 1 and 2 from Prof. Workman (and I met him in person to get a permission slip for these courses). I always went to the Latin Carol service in Alumnae Hall, and I fondly remember singing Jingle Bells in Latin (I still remember the first verse). It was also fun to hear the Chattertocks sing a song in Latin. I’m glad the tradition continues.
