Thank you for amplifying Dr. Shih’s critical work. It reminds me of the importance of interrogating the savior industrial complex (the need for people of privilege to feel that we’re helping those “without”). Without a critical lens, it’s easy to accept a narrative that silences the voices of people whose lives and conditions we might want to support without understanding their own needs, strengths, and particular situations. I’m grateful for this overview of her work.
