It is exciting to read about research that can have such an immense impact on a common clinical problem in medicine. The millispinner device developed by Renee Zhao ’14 ScM, ’16 PhD, and her team is truly an engineering feat of genius to help cure a common and devastating problem like thrombotic stroke. Although the thrombolytic medications that we currently use to reverse thrombotic stroke were also a significant achievement, they are time limited and not without possible complications. The millispinner would provide an additional tool when the thrombolytic medications are contraindicated or are unable to dissolve more-organized fibrotic clots. Well done, Dr. Zhao and team, for a possible solution that can benefit the entire world, and thanks for a well-written article by Daniel Oberhaus.

The millispinner device … is truly an engineering feat of genius to help cure a common and devastating problem.
